Budget “Hot Rod Cruiser” Stage 2

Reid’s Speed Shop will be proudly offering this package to those who are looking to hop up their stock small block without necessarily taking their wallet’s lunch money. Here we will be taking the best qualities of the “Poor Man’s Performance SBC” and kicking it up a notch!

I’ve done an extensive amount of research over my years of building and more often than not, while I was on a budget oriented mindset. During that time, I was able to curate what I feel is one of the best viable “off the shelf” options that is budget minded, without at the cost of quality.

This Hot Rod Small Block will provide you with a combination proven to be an absolute joy to drive on the street while providing minimal headaches! It’ll look good, sporting a vintage look and sound good with that classic smooth to choppy idle!

What To expect

What does it Include?

Essentially everything you need to give your stock small block some pep in its step utilizing quality parts from trusted sources!

(ie NO EBAY PARTS!)

  • 200cc FloTek Aluminum Heads w/ 64cc Combustion Chambers (your choice of angled or straight plugged)

    • .550 Max Lift

    • Absolutely amazing for stock bottom end / stock compression small blocks

    • Gives a good bump in compression for those that have stock heads with larger combustion chambers

    • 20cc step up in intake runner volume compared to Stage 1(most typical stock cast iron heads are around 140-160cc)

  • Roller Camshaft / Roller Lifters Upgrade

    • 1800-5400 Operating Range

    • 225/221 Duration & .500/.510 Lift @ .050

    • 112 LSA

    • Will sport a nice classic fair to choppy idle with crisp throttle! 112 LSA would make great for carbureted manual transmission applications as well!

      • Roller cams are ESSENTIAL for your small block in terms of reliability, durability, and efficiency

      • Allows for more power while sporting the same drivability

      • Allows for more aggressive lobe profiles with roller lifters and more airflow without excessive duration

      • Overall better torque, more power, and better for your engine

      • Will either be retrofitted, or upgraded from the OEM roller (prices may vary depending on if your block has roller provisions)

  • Edelbrock Performer RPM Dual Plane Aluminum Intake

  • Full Roller Rocker Arms

  • Hardened Pushrods

  • True Double Roller Timing Set

  • Aluminum Timing Cover

  • Cam Button

  • Timing Tab

  • HPSV Oil Pump, Screen, and One Piece Oil Pump Shaft

  • New 5qt Oil Pan

  • New 8” Dampener (Old dampeners are typically worn and 8” upgrade allows for more vibration resistance)

  • New Flexplate

  • All New Gaskets, Rings, and Bearings

  • HEI Ready to Run Ignition System w/ Melonized Distributor Gear Upgrade

  • Upgraded Mechanical Fuel Pump w/ Proper Fuel Pump Rod Material for Cam Compatibility

  • High Strength Hardware (Utilizing brands such as ARP and Engine Works)

  • High Volume Water Pump, 45 Degree Thermostat Housing, and High Flow / Failsafe Thermostat

  • Finned Aluminum Valve Covers

  • Gorgeous Hand Painted Paint Job in Your Choice of Color

  • And more!

Coming in right around $4,200 in parts BT (OE Roller blocks may be slightly cheaper), this package will take your small block to the next level without sacrificing drivability or your wallet.

This would be the typical cost for parts alone with no machine work besides a hone job in preparation for new piston rings. If your block needs machine work (if the cylinder walls are scored or have ring ridge) there will be added costs for machine work, new pistons, and balancing the assembly thereafter.

If you don’t have a block of your own and would still like one built in this manner, I can source a core for you for a fee!
