406 Dominator Forged Short Block

Reid’s Speed Shop’s 406 Dominator Short Block

The Foundation For Serious Small Block Performance.

Built around the Summit Racing SPC heavy-duty aftermarket block and an Eagle Pro Street forged rotating assembly, the 406 Dominator Short Block delivers the displacement, strength, and premium foundation of our flagship 406 Dominator while giving you complete control over your cylinder head, induction, and accessory selections.

At its core, a 4.155" bore and 3.750" stroke create 406 cubic inches of Small Block Chevrolet displacement. Inside, an Eagle 4340 forged steel crankshaft is paired with Eagle 4340 steel FSI I-Beam connecting rods featuring 7/16" ARP 8740 rod bolts and forged Icon performance pistons. The result is a stout, fully forged rotating assembly designed to provide substantial strength for serious naturally aspirated combinations and future performance upgrades.

Every 406 Dominator Short Block is professionally machined, precision assembled, and equipped with the premium oiling system, timing components, hydraulic roller camshaft, and supporting hardware required to create far more than a basic assembled short block. Each component is selected as part of a complete combination and assembled with the same attention to detail found throughout the full 406 Dominator crate engine.

With an Eagle Pro Street rotating assembly, the 406 Dominator provides substantial capability in reserve for enthusiasts whose performance goals may grow over time. Final horsepower capability will depend on the complete engine combination and intended application, but the foundation is built from the beginning with serious performance in mind.

Whether you're building a torque-heavy street machine, an aggressive naturally aspirated combination, or laying the groundwork for substantially greater performance in the future, the 406 Dominator Short Block gives you the displacement, premium forged internals, and aftermarket foundation to build around with confidence.

BUILT FOR THOSE WHO WANT THE HEART OF THE DOMINATOR AND THE FREEDOM TO MAKE THE REST THEIR OWN.

Starting out at $8,500

Why Choose a Reid’s speed Shop Crate engine:

When purchasing a crate engine, you have many options available—from large production companies to smaller independent builders. At Reid’s Speed Shop, the difference is simple: this isn’t mass production—it’s personal craftsmanship.

Every engine is carefully assembled with attention to detail and built using combinations that have been thoughtfully researched and proven to work together. Rather than being one of hundreds of engines moving down an assembly line, your engine receives the kind of focus and care that only a small, dedicated shop can provide.

Communication is also a major part of the experience. Throughout the process, customers are kept informed and updated as their engine comes together. Photos and updates are often shared so you can actually see the progress of your engine being built rather than simply receiving a shipment notice when it’s finished.

Whenever possible, customers are also given the opportunity to hear their engine run before delivery. Whether in person or through a video demonstration, this allows you to see and hear the engine come to life—giving you confidence in how it runs, idles, and performs before it ever leaves the shop.

At Reid’s Speed Shop, the goal isn’t to move engines as quickly as possible—it’s to build them correctly and ensure every customer feels confident in the investment they’ve made. Building engines is more than just a job here; it’s a genuine passion and a craft that is taken seriously.

When you choose Reid’s Speed Shop, you’re not just purchasing an engine—you’re working directly with the person building it, ensuring transparency, accountability, and a level of care that large-scale production simply cannot offer.
