Stock Refresh REbuild

The Stock Refresh Rebuild focuses on bringing a worn engine back to life through proper inspection, machine work, and careful reassembly using new wear components. The goal is simple—restore reliability and drivability while keeping the engine true to its original design.

Typical Investment

Because every engine core is different, the final cost of a Stock Refresh Rebuild can vary depending on the condition of the engine and the machine work required.

As a general guideline, most stock refresh builds typically fall around the $3,000 range once parts, labor, and standard machine shop services are considered.

This estimate assumes the engine’s major components—such as the block, crankshaft, connecting rods, and cylinder heads—are in usable condition and only require standard cleaning, inspection, and light machining such as honing or resurfacing.

If inspection reveals damaged or excessively worn components that require replacement—such as cylinder heads, crankshaft, pistons, or the engine block itself—additional parts and machine work may increase the overall cost.

Once the engine is inspected and evaluated, a more accurate breakdown of the required parts and services will be provided before moving forward.

What To Expect

The Stock Refresh Rebuild is designed for customers who simply want to restore the reliability and longevity of their engine without venturing into a full performance build. This option focuses on returning your small block to healthy operating condition while incorporating a few sensible upgrades where appropriate.

The process begins with a complete teardown and inspection of your engine. Major components such as the block, cylinder heads, and rotating assembly are carefully evaluated and then sent to the machine shop for proper cleaning, inspection, and preparation for reassembly. Typical machine shop services may include hot tanking, cylinder honing, and inspection of critical components to ensure everything is suitable for continued use.

Once the components return from the machine shop, the engine is carefully reassembled using new piston rings, rod and main bearings, cam bearings, gaskets, seals, and other necessary wear items to restore proper function and reliability.

Depending on the engine platform, this rebuild may also include retrofitting a hydraulic roller camshaft in later model blocks or replacing the existing camshaft in engines already equipped with factory roller valvetrains. Valve springs are replaced with quality stock-style replacements or springs appropriate for the roller camshaft when applicable.

Additional components such as pushrods, rocker arms, timing set, oil pump, and other supporting hardware are replaced as needed to ensure the engine operates as intended. Intake options may include reconditioning the factory intake manifold or upgrading to a simple aluminum dual-plane intake depending on the goals of the build.

The result is a refreshed small block that retains its original character while benefiting from careful inspection, proper machining, and precise reassembly—providing many more miles of reliable service.
